In truth, I believe that all of us are artists. We are all moving through time, creating something, either physical or ethereal. By our own choices, we send a creative energy into the universe, be it by thought, word, or deed.

I am a visual artist, choosing to self express by making manifest works that define me and the world as I see it. Consciously, and sometimes unconsciously, I am always searching for a new inspiration to physically produce into something beautiful, thoughtful, and provocative. Using the earth and human nature as stimuli, I meditate and mentally visualize a concept forming into a piece of art. The production of my pieces follows this same model. I accede to a higher power and allow the pieces to develop themselves, accepting mistakes and obstacles as part of the creative process. I use many materials in my work because I do not limit myself to specific media. I determine the best way in which to capture my concept in physical form and go from there.

The materials I commonly use lend themselves to my practice. The dyes flow onto fabrics, changing their values and hues, and the colors make unexpected patterns. The quilting stage of the batik pieces is a much loved part, giving me time to sit quietly and contemplate my work as I am executing it. Beadwork follows much the same theory. As I work off-loom pieces, the beads build upon and form themselves into the whimsical shapes. The handmade paper that I mold to use as a canvas for painting is often a spontaneously uncontained venture, dependent upon the natural additives that I have used.

This experimentation and discovery of ways to use new and different materials is what keeps me enthusiastic and energized as an artist in both a physical and spiritual sense. As the world constantly offers new lessons and insights, artwork will continually flow from me, as I stitch and paint these lessons into tangible pieces of work.
